A bulk membership discount lowers the monthly price of a member’s additional vehicles once they have enough vehicles on their account. FlexWash applies it automatically on every membership bill, so attendants can sell a second or third membership at a lower price without entering a discount by hand.

How it is configured

Two settings work together.

Minimum and maximum vehicles

Contact FlexWash support to turn the bulk discount on. Support sets two values for your organization:
  • Minimum vehicles. How many vehicles a member needs before the discount starts. It must be at least 2. With no minimum set, the bulk discount is off.
  • Maximum discounted vehicles. The most vehicles that can be discounted on one bill. This caps the number of discounted vehicles, not the number of vehicles a member can have. With no maximum set, there is no cap.

Bulk price

Set the discounted monthly price on each membership package:
  1. Go to Wash Menu > Packages and open the membership package.
  2. Enter the discounted monthly price in Bulk price and save.
Bulk price field on a membership package
The Bulk price field appears only on membership packages, and only admins can edit it.
Set a bulk price on every membership package. A vehicle on a package with no bulk price is never discounted, even when it would otherwise qualify.

How the discount is calculated

On each membership bill, FlexWash counts the member’s vehicles and checks the count against the minimum.
  1. Count the vehicles. Every vehicle on the bill counts, along with active vehicles that are not due this cycle, such as a vehicle paid through a later date. Cancelled vehicles and vehicles that are still frozen do not count.
  2. Check the minimum. A member with fewer vehicles than the minimum gets no discount.
  3. Discount the cheapest vehicles. Once a member qualifies, their most expensive vehicles pay full price and the rest are billed at the bulk price of their own package. The number of full-price vehicles is always one less than the minimum. With a minimum of 2, only the most expensive vehicle pays full price.
  4. Apply the cap. If a maximum is set, no more than that many vehicles are discounted on one bill.
Each discounted vehicle is billed at its own package’s bulk price. A member with vehicles on different packages does not get the cheapest package’s bulk price on every vehicle. The discount appears on the bill as a single Bulk Discount line item for the total of all discounted vehicles. It never exceeds the bill total.

Examples

These examples use two packages: Basic at $20 per month with a bulk price of $15, and Deluxe at $30 per month with a bulk price of $25.

Promotions and upsells

A vehicle with an active promotion or upsell counts toward the minimum, but it is not bulk discounted while the offer applies. Once the offer ends, the vehicle can receive the bulk discount on later bills.

Adding a vehicle mid-cycle

When an attendant adds a vehicle to an existing member, the new vehicle is charged a prorated amount for the rest of the current cycle. If the member meets the minimum with the new vehicle included, the new vehicle gets the bulk discount on that prorated charge, even if it is not the member’s cheapest vehicle. This keeps the price the attendant quotes at the point of sale. On the next regular bill, FlexWash recalculates the discount across all of the member’s vehicles as described above.
Adding vehicles to a member’s account is covered in Family Plan.
