FlexWash can run on your existing router and WiFi network instead of the dedicated FlexWash network. This option is a good fit for sites that do not need the fully managed network and are ok with managing their own IT stack.
This setup requires someone on your team who knows how to configure your network. FlexWash support cannot remotely access your site to debug network issues on third-party equipment.

Requirements

Your network must meet all of the following:
  • Single WiFi network for all FlexWash devices. Pay tablets, pay terminals, and receipt printers must share the same network so they can discover and talk to each other.
  • Static IP addresses. Every FlexWash device needs a known, reserved IP. Share this list with FlexWash support before go-live.
  • IPv4 only. Disable IPv6. FlexWash devices communicate over IPv4.
  • Peer-to-peer communication enabled. Client isolation, AP isolation, and similar features must be off so FlexWash devices can reach each other directly on the LAN.

Troubleshooting

If a pay tablet cannot reach the pay terminal or receipt printer, work through these steps in order.

1. Confirm the network

Verify every FlexWash device is on the same WiFi network and using the static IP you assigned.

2. Power cycle the devices

Reboot the pay tablet, pay terminal, and receipt printer. Many transient network issues clear after a fresh boot.

3. Test connectivity from a known-good device

If the issue persists, test from a computer you control:
  1. Get a computer you have root access to.
  2. Join the same WiFi network the pay tablet is on. Use WiFi, not Ethernet, so the test matches the pay tablet’s path through the network.
  3. Open a terminal or command prompt.
  4. Run ping <ip-address> for the pay terminal, then again for the receipt printer.
If the pings fail, the problem is in your network, not FlexWash. Contact your IT admin to investigate the router, switch, or access point configuration.

Limitations

Running FlexWash on your own network changes the support model:
  • You own the network. Your team or IT admin is responsible for setup, monitoring, and debugging any network issues.
  • FlexWash support advises, not debugs. Our team can recommend the steps in this article, but cannot remotely access third-party network equipment.
  • No cellular failover. The dedicated FlexWash network includes cellular failover if your ISP goes down. On your own network, an ISP outage will take FlexWash offline until service is restored.
