Camera Angle

For optimal LPR read rates, we recommend the following:

  1. Placement of the LPR camera in the middle of the lane if possible (behind a height disclaimer sign for example).
  2. If the camera must be on the side of the lane, no more than 45 degree angles both vertically and horizontally. Diagrams below. The height of the camera should be no more than 10 feet, ideally 8’. But it needs to be at least 3’.
  3. A distance of 26 feet between the gate and the LPR camera.
  4. Vehicles need to be straight not turning, so avoid pointing the camera inside a turn raduis.

Angles are more important than distance, but the whole car needs to be visible to the LPR camera.

To be extra sure please park a car in the lane and take a picture from where you want to put the camera and we will tell you if it is a good vantage point.

Camera Mounting

We recommend you mount the camera directly on a flat surface resistant to corrosion as shown in the image below. This gives the best protection against water damage.

lpr-mount

If you cannot mount on a flat surface we recommend the AXIS T91B47 Pole Mount. This model is compatible with our cameras.

This pole mount requires a more careful install since the back of the camera has an air gap so you must use the weather proof seal correctly for the ethernet cable. Instructions come with the camera.

You can buy it on Amazon and various other online stores.
