The FlexWash supplied LPR or License Plate Recognition Camera is the first piece of every transaction with FlexWash. This camera is similar to many on the market in the way it reads license plates. Where it varies is in Vehicle Detection. FlexWash uses proprietary software to both read license plates & detect vehicles simultaneously. This allows for us to have industry leading read rates.
In the example above, the lane is straight and the camera placement does not allow cars to overlap in the frame guaranteeing that the Vehicle Detection runs smoothly.
For optimal LPR read rates, we recommend the following:
The Horizontal Camera Angle (Side to side) should be less than 45 degrees of angle.
The Vertical camera angle (Top to bottom) should be less than 45 degrees of angle.
Minimum distance of 27’6” from the gate.
Ideally, we want the lane to be be straight (no Left or right turns) to ensure that the License Plates are not misread due to visibility errors. See examples below:
Angles are more important than distance, but the whole car needs to be visible to the LPR camera.
To be extra sure please park a car in the lane and take a picture from where you want to put the camera and we will tell you if it is a good vantage point.
AXIS P1465-LE (left) / AXIS P3265-LVE (right)Depending on the date of installation, your site will have one of the two models of Axis cameras shown above.
We recommend you mount the camera directly on a flat surface resistant to corrosion as shown in the image below. This gives the best protection against water damage.
If you cannot mount on a flat surface we recommend the AXIS T91B47 Pole Mount. This model is compatible with our cameras.
This pole mount requires a more careful install since the back of the camera has an air gap so you must use the weather proof seal correctly for the ethernet cable. Instructions come with the camera.
